If F983 is inactive, others have said in this group to power down the VM system and reboot. What is the correct procedure to do this? Do I have to be connected to the system with my laptop using the Norstar VM software (which I don't have)?
Just because it's an older machine doesn't necessarily mean they are going to lose their programming but I do agree that he/she/it needs to power down just the voicemail. Just pull the power cord outta the power source, count to 10 and plug it in again. Then try your F983 (if its an Applications Module) or F903 if it is a Flash. MRoberts

That is true but then thats why I said its a risk to take and a costly one, I do a laptop/backup with every 8x24(and now any MICS) these days ever since I had to reprogram 80 some odd stations with night services, answer dn cheater groups and lots of hidden goodies after I moved the KSU to the new site.
~Will Nortel soon be NoTel??~
When anyone asks for help, he should tell the people what SW release he's got on the KSU and on the NAM. As far as unplugging the power cord - F915 will most likely shift to F916 and so on, so you'd better do the restart using F915/reboot.
I have seen the "Features gone problem" after upgrading the KSU to higher version incompatible with the older NVM release.
by the way, i am able to restore VM channels from broken hard drives.
