Any one encounter problem with Maxtor 7200 rpm ide drive ?
both are real Maxtor, not the Quantum Maxtor style

one model 91366U4
one model 51536H3 DiamondMax Plus 40

sounds like riding a horse

I recently had a maxtor ata133 7200 40gb drop on me. It came from a dell system that Ive had for a couple months. Just bought another maxtor ata133 7200 80gb, no problems yet.

Never had a Maxtor drop on me before. I have installed about 40-60 over the past couple years in various machines.

As a matter of fact, that is the only Manufacturer's HDD that I will put in a system - new or old. I have tried the other 3 major brands and none of them perform as well as the Maxtor (any type) with Western Digital being the worst.

Are you having specific problems with them? If so, what kinds of problems?

yes Matt,

the drive sounds like riding a horse, and mb can't find the hd, i called up Maxtor, they said, yes it is dead

these are 13 to 15GB drive 7200 rpm
never have a 5400 rpm fail on Maxtor

Well...

If the mobo cant find the hdds (either of them) even using an auto-detect, then they are probably dead. Have you tried a different mobo yet? What about the old freeze-dried method? Have you tried it?

make no different the hd is so loud, and both makes a sound like clunking sound, ride of a horse

If they are clunking, use them as door stops or as deco arrangements in your garden.

Thats about all they are good for.

Sorry about your bad experience. Buy some new ones
