Maximum length filename AIX 4.3*

Can anyone tell me the maximum length allowed for a filename in AIX 4.3*? Also, does this maximum length include the directory-names leading to the file? In other words:

================================================
filename.fil is 12 characters long
/route/to/filename.fil is 22 characters long
================================================

So does the maximum filename length limit the first or the second example. If the first, what is the limit on the second?

If anyone has a URL describing the limitations, I'd appreciate it if you could post it. I've done google and teoma searches, as well as digging around on IBM's site. Nada.

Can you clarify something for me, though? When you say "File= directory or file", what exactly do you mean?

/usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf is 33 characters long

but

httpd.conf is only 10 characters long

Which is the 255 character limitation? Are you saying that you have a total of 255 characters to name the entire path and filename, as in the /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf example above, or does the 255 character limitation apply only to the httpd.conf portion?

Sorry to repeat the question, but I need to be certain I understand the limitation.

Hello.

255 characters Limit applies for the name of the file not for its path.

/usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf

in your sample, 255 limit applies for "httpd.conf" only.
