I'm hoping that there may be a member here that is using v3.03 that came bundled with the contact management software Maximizer v7.0. My question is:

In accessing a RS report via Maximizer - despite Maximizer prompting the user whether the report is for the current record or all records in the list it appears that the report is being generated for ALL records in the database. Is this a problem with Maximizer or the design of the RS report?

What's in the Selection Criteria?

What's the SQL that ReportSmith generates?

The only selection criteria is a user entered date range and this performs as expected. I've set up no criteria other than that for selecting records.

It is my understanding that the program Maximizer is to provide the criteria wether the report should be run on the current record highlighted within Maximizer OR the filtered list of records displayed within Maximizer. This doesn't appear to be happening even though I get a prompt that ask if the report is for the current record or all records in the list.

To implement this in RS I'm not sure which field I would use. Really need someone more familiar with Maximizer who has used RS. I realize I could create a selection criteria requesting the user input to filter the report to achieve similar results but would like to first resolve that it isn't a configuration issue between the two programs.

What is the normal practice for producing reports for individual records using RS? Can it be automated through a selection criteria or would it need to be based on user prompts?

While I know nothing of Maximizer, I can tell you that ultimately what matters is the SQL that is generated by ReportSmith. You need to determine whether the data fed to Maximizer is making it the final SQL statement. That might help your analysis of the issue.

Meanwhile,

Using ReportSmith's report variables for automation is fairly easy. You simply create them (they're like buckets that hold user input).....and then add them to the list of items in the Selection Criteria. Of course, you don't have to use the report variables, but that forces you to change the Selection Criteria statements each time you run the reports.

If you give me some specific examples, I'd love to help you out.

For reference the underlying DB for Maximizer is Pervasive.SQL 2000 for Workgroups.

To simplify matters if one simply wanted to generate a set of mailing labels to a list of clients, if the bucket so to speak has all records in the database I can't see this being a straight forward task unless their is a unique identifier for those specific records.

My practice based on the manner in which Maximizer is portrayed to work was to narrow my list of records within Max and then generate the RS report. I think I'll have to apply my selection criteria within RS instead.

Thanks for your help though. I'll probably have a question or two for you yet.

Thanks

Iris
