I've just installed a brand new Maxtor Diamon 10 300GB Drive into my Windows 2000 server (Sp4)

The BIOS on the machine is tellinf me I've got 300GB but when I go into Disk Manager - it tell's me that I've only got 128GB. I've checked the BIOS for any sort of RAIDing options but none there.

Any idea's where my other 172GB has gone?

Cheers

did the drive come with drivers?
i had that problem with 2003 with my maxtor 250 when i installed it. first time i let windows use its own driver (found 128gig). second time i used the drivers that came with the drive. (found full 250).

hmmm, no the drive didn't come with drives. Perhaps I'll check out the Maxtor site for them!

Will let you know ...

This is a Windows problem, something you have to correct in the registry. I've encountered the same thing, I'll dig through my notes and see if I can find the fix. I'd just thought I'd give you a head start in the meantime, no need to look for drivers.

Drivers are going to be a problem. I've just gone into the device manager on the machine and there's a single PCI device that's not got drivers loaded. Looking through the rest of the devices, no SATA device controllers are installed so I'm going to download the drivers for the SATA controller and give that a go.

The reg hack might be good though ...

Sorry, should have said it was SATA. Kudos to you both though - I put the reg hack in first, didn't work so removed it. Installed the chipset drivers for the SATA, didn't work - so then re-put the reg hack in and hey presto - 279GB of disk! (Shame that windows takes 21GB of disk for its filetables)

Cheers
