I would like to know if they are a limitation of files in a file system.

And i would like to know how to work inodes in AIX?

I have some machines with AIX 4.3.3, 5.1 and 5.2.

About inodes, i would like to know how "AIX" manage inodes.

hi ,

on AIX 4.3 maximum, filesyetm size is 1TB ( tera byte)
maximum file size is 64GB ( giga byte)
this is JFS filesystem

On AIX 5.1

you can create jfs and jfs2 filesystems jfs is same as above
but JFS2 is :- max file system size 1 TB
max file size is 1 TB

on AIX 5.2 you can also create jfs and jfs2 filesystems
jfs is same as above but jfs2 is :-

max filesystem size is 16TB
max file size is 16TB

Regarding inodes , on jfs filesystems this is fixed and set when you create the filesytem the nbpi field ( see man mkfs
and search for inode / nbpi) If your inodes run out you either have to remove old files or re-create filesystem with more inodes.

With JFS2 filesystem the inodes are controlled dynamically depending on how much space you have .
