Is there any logical reason why PM R3.0 allows the ext. digit lenght to be changed? I thought that Partner will only allow dialed ext. numbers to be 2 digits. Unlike Nortel were thye lenght can be changed in both switch and voice mail.

I like to set my small business customers to a lenght of 3 with Nortel and 4 for my larger clinets.

I feel that 2 digits just looks funny on a business card and that it makes a small business that wants to look larger look like they are small.

Even if you could, I wouldn't. Too much trouble potential for too little benefit. If you were desperate, make selector code 1 go to another auto attendant with selector codes for direct extension transfer. The mailboxes will still be 11, 12, 13 etc, but an outside caller to auto attend will be able to dial 111, or 112 or 113. If it's that important, install a different system.

I see your point. There would be internal confusion because the staff now would have to remember that dialing inside is only 2 digits and dialing from outside will be 3 digits.

Does the new IP allow for flex. numbering of exts? What is your opinion of the IP Office?

Yes IP Office can have 2,3,4,5-9 digit extensions. I think it is a great system. it depends on the tech installing it weather it will be good or not. you have to take your time and read a lot for your first couple installs then once you get it it is pretty easy to set up.

IP Office is a VERY different animal compared to Partner ACS. They don't do Key System functions all that well (getting better, though). However, system numbering is one of the best attributes. Extensions don't need to be same digit length (you can have an ext 14 and an extension 2376843). All other functions can be numbered to suit your needs.
If you want flexability, IP Office is a great choice. If you want a system to hang on the wall, do ten minutes of config and walk away - learn to live with 10, 11, 12 and go Partner ACS.

You can change the maximum extension length in Partner Mail to create guest mailboxes with 3 digits - but your mailboxes that are associated with extensions will remain at their fixed 2 digits. It will also cause longer transfer times, as it must wait to see if the caller is going to dial a 3rd digit before timing out and completing the transfer.

What do you think about the fact that no Desi lables have to be used on the IP sets as well as it seems on all the other newer system coming out?

We love the auto label phones - they're not only IP - the 5400 series digital phones support auto labeling. Easy to keep the labels up to date as folks come and go. Hard to justify the whole system on this one feature, but it sure helps.

What is the installed cost lets say for 10 sets and 6 lines. Is there any refurb market yet for these systesm?

Cost is probably 25% more than Partner ACS (just a guess - like any system, it really depends on exact config, what you want it to do, and which VM product you use). Not much refurb that I've seen - but we really don't operate in that market.
