Ok im drawing a building but im having troubles with the material editor i need to make a 2 sided material for the outside and inside of a wall so i dont have to draw 2 walls for 2 different materials....i had it oncebut now its not working thanx for your help.

If the walls have no thicknes then in 3dsmax5 there's a material called Double Sided Basic material that does the trick that you are asking for.
But...
I think that you have build the building with walls that have a thickness - right? If all the walls are one big mesh, then I would select all the polygons in the mesh that makes up the inside of the building and give them the material ID 2.
The outside of the walls will naturaly have the ID 1.

Last - give the mesh a multi/sub-object Basic material.

Thanx it worked i gave the wall a thinkness n used the double-sided material and it gave it the rite material on both sides....but now i have another problem...the bricks on the wall are huge...the wall is 66ft long n the material shows it with only 3 bricks!! how would i shrink the material so it looks more realistic with the brick design?? thanks for your help!

Perhaps its a bit late for you that I answer your question now – but here we go.

You can do this in 2 ways:
1. Select your object an go to Modify.
2. Assign the modifier ”UVW Mapping” to the object.
3. An orange gizmo will cover your object and give you a
nice control over the material.
4. Change the gizmo from ”Planar” to ”Box”.
5. Now you can modify the tiling of the material by
changing on ”U Tile” and ”V Tile”.

Unfortunately – you can’t see the result of your work, unless you render the scene. Instead, you can turn on the material so you can see it in modelspace. The benefit is that you can change the U and V Tile and instantly see how it looks.
1. Open the Material Editor (Shortcut = M)
2. Select the assigned brick-material.
3. From the horizontal menubar in the Material Editor,
press the menubutton that looks like a blue- and white-
coloured box. This button is called ”Show map in
Viewport”. (If its not working, then go a bit deeper
into the map hierarchy as explained in the following
step 2.)
4. Close the Material Editor again.
5. Go to one of the viewports – for instance Perspective
view. If it isn’t shaded, then press ”F3”. If the
material are a bit shaken, then try to right-click in
the upper-left corner of the viewport on the
text ”Perspective” and a rolloutmenu appears.
Select ”Texture Correction” from here.

The other way you can tile the material on is:
1. Open the Material Editor and from here, select the brick-
material.
2. Goto ”Maps” and select the map that has the material
assigned – its probably ”Diffuse Colour”.
3. Under ”Coordinates” you have the opportunity to tile,
offset and rotate the map.

If you only has assigned the map to one object, then this is the easiest way to change the map. But if it is assigned to several different objects, then use the UVW Mapping modifier.

From KBBJ (-:

Thanx it worked correctly, and my building actually looks rite!!
Thanx again.
