When opening exchange server manager on the single server in the organization there is an old server listed as Master.

Asking around I gathered that exchange was installed on server1, then a second exchange server was installed on server2. The mailboxes were moved from server1 to server2 then exchange on server1 was uninstalled(all prior to my arrival with the company). Both server1 and server2 are running windows server 2003R2 the exchange server version is 2003.

Server1 and Server2 are active as DC's.

How can i clean up this mess?

adsiedit is going to come into play here. Sounds like the original server wasn't cleanly removed.

And we won't discuss running Exchange on a DC. It's Friday and I'm in a good mood. :)

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

thanks for the response.

I was thinking about going in with ADSEdit and delete the server object in Exchange Servers -> Administrative Group -> Server

But since the old exchange server is still listed as Master i was wondering if there are any steps I need to take to transfer any exchange roles prior to manually removing that server?
