I keep getting the following error on my PDC (SVR-DCFP-0101) every couple of seconds.

"The browser has received a server annoucement indicating that the computer SVR-DCFP-0101 is a master browser, but this computer is not a master browser"

It seems like the Domain Controller is winning the election, but the server will not report as the master browser for the domain. Is there a setting that controls whether a computer can be a master browser?

Somebody correct me if i'm wrong

I believe the Browser service in W2K is for backward compatiablity with NT and Win9X and Dos boxes.

In a W2K network the Browser service is no longer used AD and DNS take care of the List of avaible Network Services. This eleminates the Polling of the Browser Service which eat up network bandwith and gives a central place to look up all that stuff.

Just an FYI

hope this helps

Does that mean it will not affect anything if you turn off the browser service under win2k? I have turned off the service and the problem seems to have stopped. Just wondering if it may cause any other problems?

Thanks for the help guys!

it will cause a problem concerning clients that are not W2K

it will not publish the Services or Network Shares avaible to clients when they Browes the local network like when you use Network Niegborhood

JJGRAF is correct. However, you can install an active directory client piece on your clients so that they can use Active Directory.

In general, if you are in a pure Win2K environment, you can turn off the WINS browsing services.
