MAS90 Locks Up At Same Time Each Day

Here's a challenge we can't figure out.

New Client has MAS90 (12 users) that "locks up" every day between 5:00p.m. and 6:00p.m.
Running on Dell 1400 with 1GB RAM and Fairly new Dell Workstations with 512MB RAM and XP-Pro.
Doesn't seem to be traffic related as network traffic is down during that period from the rest of the day and they run MAS90 all day with no problems.
Doesn't seem to be user count related because again there are fewer MAS90 users running in the lock up window than the rest of the day.

We initially thought it might be a memory leak on the app with the similarity of time of lock up but client says they don't have to reboot the server or restart any services, rebooting the offending workstation(s) frees the application.

We're not MAS90 experts so don't know if we should be looking for a setup/configuration setting or if there is potentially some deadlock record conflict that two people running the same operation or report or whatever could create such a situation consistently.

Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
SIM2K

Have you checked to see if you have any anti-virus scans or backups running at that time. Any e-mail blast?

BigLouie -

Thanks. We're going to check those. I saw some of your posts after I added this thread. I don't believe any jobs are kicking off then, but the XP SP2 Firewall and AV do make sense as things to check.

Still interested in other thoughts, though, if you or any others have any.

MAS90 is a file server program so any heavy network traffic or anything that effects coming into the work station will have an effect on MAS90 and the speed.

Sometimes my backup program causes MAS to lockup or freeze.. It appears that if someone is still logged into the system when the backup program hits whatever files are open from the workstation, MAS will freeze up.

One thing to eliminate right off are user-oriented problems. For example, given the time of lockups seems to be quittin' time, if some loser isn't turning off their system nicely (nor exiting MAS90 correctly) I can see MAS90 getting pissy over that.

the backup idea above is possible especially if it's a client-oriented "low-end" backup that someone decides to run on their station at the end of the day and for whatever reason included the MAS90 network drive. (however, any real backup program, on the server--would/should skip open files and wouldn't harm an open MAS90 file). A giant backup would also slow the whole network down if done from a client station.

However, the best sure-fire way to see what's happening is to check the server console (either in person or via an App) when it happens and see who's doing what and if specific files are locking--see which ones they are.

I'm working on a very similar issue.

I have a client who is experiencing MAS90 lockups between 5:00pm - 6:30pm.

I haven't found any scheduled backups, virus scans, or any other items scheduled for this time period.

While the problem was happening I used filemon and the user's PVXWIN32.EXE process was trying to lock \\<<MAS90Servername>\90w\MAS90\soa\SY0CTL.SOA

Other users are able to use MAS90 while the affected user is locked. Closing and reopening MAS90 fixes the problem.

The affected user runs MAS90 in Citrix. While this problem is happening there is not heavy processor or memory utilization on the Citrix server nor the MAS90 server.

We have the same problem @ 5:07 pm everyday it locks up the pc and then the whole system until the pc is rebooted?

has anyone solved this problem yet??

we will give it a try hopefully it works, i'll keep you all posted. thanks for the info

well it looks like the virus software is allready set to ignore those file types so im still on the hunt to find a solution :( , thanks for the help

I had another lockup last night. I'm thinking the problem is related to some large process that another user is performing in MAS90...seems to go along with it being end of month...

your lucky!!! our mas locks up at 5:06pm every day! no matter what......

We had a similiar issue for a while. My clue to solving it was that it happened every day when User(N) left the office!

Two synergistic causes: 1. User(N)had a corrupt MAS client install, 2. User (N) would simply power off their PC when leaving, not exiting anything, even an open Sales Order. This left a runaway session on the server that hogged cycles.

Solution: 1. Reinstall MAS client software. 2. Threats, beatings, etc to change User(N) behavior.
