MAS90 licensing question

I have a client who is using an old version of MAS90 (v3.x). They have a 5-user license, and used to have 3 Win98 boxes running the program. They replaced two of those boxes with three new XP machines, so they have one old 98 box and three new xp boxes.

The problem is that they can only get two users on at a time... when a third tries to run MAS90, they are asked for a Providex key, which my client says they don't have. It sounds like the two old boxes that were replaced are still eating up two licenses, plus one for the 98 machine that's still active, leaving only two available licenses for the 3 xp machines.

Not knowing how licensing for these versions of MAS90 works, does anyone know how I can work around this problem? Is there a way to transfer licenses from one machine to another, or a file I have to copy from the old workstations? Should a re-install of MAS90 do the trick, and install the licenses?

It sounds as if you have "ghost" users in the system. You will need to edit the system control file to delete the ghost users.

Thanks for the reply, I will try that later this week... You wouldn't happen to know the file name or type of file I am looking for, would you? I want to be careful not to hose up their existing system. Thanks again.

I can help you with this:

Have all other users exit Sage MAS 90 and note the phantom Terminal IDs still listed in Master Console.

Open LM / Repair / Data File Display and Maintenance.
Enter "SY0CTL" (no quotes) in the 'File Name' field. The path to the file will now appear

Click on the 'Key Scan' button, then click on 'Search'.
Enter upper-case " T ", and click on the 'OK' button. A list of records will appear.

The TID will display in plain-text on the right side of the list (e.g. (T101) ). Use the 'page-down' (double-arrow) button to scroll down the Keyscan list until the desired Terminal is found.
Note: The plain-text TID will not display on Sage MAS 90 3.41 through 3.51 if the single-arrow buttons or the keyboard's down-arrow key is used to scroll. Also, the TID will not display on Sage MAS 90 3.40 and prior versions. Select the first 'T' record and browse through the records until the desired record is found.

Click on the desired TID record (e.g. "T101") and click the 'Select' button. The 'T' record will appear.
Verify that the TID is correct and click the 'Delete' button.

The message "Delete current record?" will appear. Click 'Ok'.

The next record will automatically appear on the screen. Continue to delete the " T " records until a different TID appears.
Note: Usually only the first " T " record needs to be deleted, but sometimes all of the records for that TID must be deleted.

If multiple ghost users exist, repeat the above steps until all of the ghost users are deleted.
