I have a couple customers running MAS90 4.05 over a network that have recently upgraded to Symantec Antivirus Corporate version 10.1. Since they have done this it is locking up their workstations when opening modules. I know it is related to the Antivirus, and I have sent them this list of file/folder exclusions:

SOA
M4T
M4P
M4L
M4D
PVC
LIB
RPT
XEQ
DD
DDE
DDF

Nothing seems to be resolving the issue. Has anyone else come across this problem and may have a solution?

The delay of any module loading and other misc. Mas90 delays is caused by the new "Tamper Protection" feature in Symantec AntiVirus v10 being enabled. When you disabled the tamper protection on the client side, the Mas90 modules should open up in half the time compared to when tamper protection was enabled. Just make sure to keep network scanning (under "Drive Types" on client/server) disabled (per Sage & Symantec).

Here is the official Sage take on the topic:

The default installation of a Symantec Enterprise-based product such as Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition or Symantec Antivirus Enterprise Edition.

To test to see if this may be the cause, temporarily disable antivirus on the workstation (typcially done through the System Tray) and then open a task from the MAS 90 Business Desktop (Launcher). Compare the screen load time with antivirus enabled.

The Enterprise-based products are configurable for realtime memory resident scans. This feature is known as File System Realtime Protection or AutoProtect, depending on which version of the product is installed. The following changes can be made in the File System Realtime Protection properties to improve MAS 90 screen load performance, listed in the order of best performance.

a. By default, network scans are selected via the Network checkbox. If you have already protected yourself by installing antivirus software running with the latest signatures on the server and every other computer in your network, consider clearing this checkbox. The best performance gain is achieved through this setting. With this setting, no other changes are required. In all likelihood, the screen load time will be the same as if File System Realtime Protection was disabled.

b. For File Types, consider choosing Selected over All Types. This "inclusion" setting indicates scanning is done only on the selected file extensions listed when clicking on the Extensions button. On some versions, when the Extensions button is clicked, a SmartScan checkbox will be available. Consider not enabling SmartScan for better performance.

c. Under Options, consider selecting "Exclude selected files and folders". Then in the subsequent dialog, select the option to "Check file for exclusion before scanning". This is known as a "prescan exclusion". Not selecting it causes a "postscan exclusion" to occur, which means the files in the exclusion list are still scanned for viruses but any viruses found are not reported.

The exlcusion list should include the following file types:

SOA
M4T
M4P
M4L
M4D
PVC
LIB
RPT
XEQ
DD
DDE
DDF

just ran into the same problem, I localized the problem to two workstations. In one case when the user executes mas90, the application locks for all users on the network. In the second case mas90 locks happen when the user attempts to print Sales Orders.

I am going to do further testing, but as of now, MAS90 is running without exclusions in Antivirus, and tamper protection enabled for all workstations on the network.

my guess right now is that this problem has to do with WINSOCK and LSP. It might be an LSP virus corrupting WINSOCK, or it could be network card driver related.

If I were to make a suggestion, maybe start by having all users exit mas90 and have them login one at a time and see when the problem starts.

good luck
