I need step by step instructions on how to map ports for the Westel Wire Speed DSL Modem. This is for a friend who is even less technically oriented than I.

He just got DSL for his home computer. It uses the Westel Modem. He has a program call iSpQ that uses ports 2000-2003 to transmit pics and messages to other users. As soon as he got DSL, other users were no longer able to send him messages. He queried his provider (Bellsouth) and was told "...if you are using the Westel modem, which is also a router, you need to map the ports or enable ip passthrough. Both options are found in expert mode inside the modem."

I don't think IP passthrough is the solution. He wouldn't normally know the IP address of anyone sending messages to him.

For comparison purposes, I use a cable modem with a McAfee firewall. I had the same problem when I first started using iSpQ. I simply allowed data to enter through ports 2000-2003.

Can anyone help by giving me step by step instructions on how to get the Westel Modem to allow messages thru on ports 2000-2003?

Just realized that I wrote down the name of the modem incorrectly. It should be Westell WireSpeed DSL Modem.

Yes, I still need help. I am doing this as a go-between. I am now retired and haven't kept up for the past 2 years. Last time I did anything with a modem was about 1990.

I think that model number should be A90-210030-04 (not -D4 as I said before).

Thanks to all who contributed to my solution. Based on links provided I finally got to Westell.Com and sent them an email. Found out that the A90.210010.04 modem/router was made especially for BellSouth who provides all tech support. They gave me a link of and I was able to download the user manual and write blow-by-blow instructions for my friend in FL.

Should anyone need instructions for setting ports for a Westell Wirespeed Dual Connect Modem, you can contact me at okiehoosier@comcast.net
