Hello,
I downloaded a plant where a leaf image is mapped the same way to each individual leaf of the model. How is this achieved? If I use uvw map and use any of the methods, it spreads the image out over the entire area, not the individual leaves.

Thanks

You have to use a different UVW map for each leaf. UVW map is a modifier that allows you to access the UVW coordinates of a mesh. If you apply it while you have the whole mesh selected, it modifies the whole mesh. In order to do leaf by leaf, you must go into polygon sub-object mode, select all the polygons in a leaf, then while they are selected, add the UVW map modifier. This will allow you to only work with one leaf. Once you've mapped that leaf, simply collapse the UVW map modifer so all you have in your stack is Editable Mesh. If each leaf is identical, my suggestion to you is to model and map one leave, then clone it, if not you will have to UVW each leaf, or a least, download or write some script to copy the UVW coordinates from leaf to leaf. Hope that helps.
