Mapping a printer to Citrix Universal Printer 1

Hello,

I have tried to be clever. I have some Wyse 1200LE's to which I have attached a deskjet printer. If I specify the printer name correctly, the printer is auto-created on the Citrix server. No problem. However, I would like to specify the printer to be "Local Printer" on the Wyse unit. Then on the server, map "Local Printer" to "Citrix Universal Driver". Thus, no matter what kind of printer is attached to the Wyse USB port, it will use the Universal Printer (UPD in old language) and print fine!

Good idea? Yes, of course it is. However, it didn't work. Is there another way I can perform this?

Thanks,

Lloyd

The UPD Driver will only work with 9.x Win32 Clients, so this might be your problem (Since ICA 8.x is the highest build of CE 4.x & 5.x clients) You could try this with the UPD II or a DeskJet 550C Driver.

A ha!

Thanks Patrick, the Wyse 1200 actually comes 7.0 so you must be right. I will have a look at using that other driver.

The 9.x ICA Client is "currently" only available for Win32, not for CE, Java, Linux... Hopefully those will come around in the future.

Just an FYI that I came across a big performance bug in ICA 7.x on Wyse 3125SE Thin Clients, where moving the cursor around on a certain program was painfully slow. Upgrading to 8.x resolved the problem.

Thanks Patrick,

I don't think there is a way of upgrading the ICA client on the 1200 - it uses the Wyse Blazer operating system. I believe Wyse would have to include ICA 8.0 in a firmware upgrade. The latest firmware includes v7.0.

Good to know. I only have 3235LE, 3125SE, 3150SE & 9150SE models. ON the 3125SE I did some head scratching trying to figure out my problem, until I had one running next to another thin-client w/ ICA version 8.x that didn't have any problem.

Wyse offered my CE 5.x on all of my 3125SE if it fixed my problem, but it ended up only being the ICA client that needed an upgrade.

Patrick,

I have been having another problem with printers:

Using the new Session Printers within PS4 Policies has not been working. You can allocate network printers to users based on the policy, thus meaning you don't need login scripts (for printers anyway).

With client v9 it works!! I hold you responsible for helping me find this out! Thanks. Enjoy the star.

Lloyd

PS. This does not help with the Wyse terminals, but at least I know why.
