im a novice to edi. im trying to learn edi on my own.
i wouldlike to know what logical mapping is? is it something related to gentran edi software? if so, how do i do that? can someone help?
IF I am reading you correctly (and I believe that I am). You are using a "Gentran" term here. Basically what they are talking about is subscripting or concatinating data.
It really isn't very useful at the mapping level (in my opinion). This would be better served being done by an application program.
GENTRAN isn't the fastest of routines and the last thing you want to do is slow it down even more. Don't get me wrong - it is an EXCELLENT product. But leave the fancy stuff to your own programs..... not to Gentran.
geentran is just a software that translates the edi templates and transmits or receives EDI. EDI is a standard but i found that different traders have some diff in there mappings so you really have to get the mappings from the respective trader like walmart, target, bestbuy etc. this way you can decide what tools, programming language to develop in. there are also third party companies who already have and sell these templates for gentran.
