Mapped drives to dmz timeout only for 9x clients

Hello everyone,
I appear to have an unusual situation, at least Cisco thinks so. I have 98 and 2K clients mapping a drive to a system in the dmz. They map via \\publicIPAddress\sharename. This works fine for W2K systems. Although for 9x clients, the mapping seems to timeout after 15 minutes of inactivity. Then, the only way to remap the drive is to reboot.

Any ideas?????
Thanks,
Mike

I currently have this problem with 98 clients on my w2k network. There is a file called DSClient.exe that has to be installed on the 98 clients in order for them to talk to AD. I installed this and it did not work. It has something to do with the kerberos authentification I believe but not for sure. For a temp work around I simply changed the account lockout duration to 1 min and the reset account lockout counter to 1 min. So after 1 min the 98 clients can access the mapped drive again. Here is the thread that I posted that you can read to try the things I have and see if they work. thread96-489386 I don't know if your useing w2k servers or not or if this also happens within the network but hope it helps

Yizhar,
I don't remember why I am using the public IP addresses, but I believe it was a problem with accessing the private IP addresses.

Quell,
The 98 clients map to W2K systems in the inside with no problems. The problem arises when they map to a share in the dmz.

Thanks,
Mike

Yizhar,
I updated the lmhosts file on the 98 client on the inside. I can now map the drive by the hostname, but it still times out after 15 minutes. Cisco says that looking at the packet capture, that the 2000 hosts in the dmz are issuing a RESET after 15 minutes of inactivity.

Hi
Just found your post on timeouts of w98 connections to 2003 Server. I have had exactly the same problem. Did you find a solution to it?

Does anyone have a copy of the latest version of DSClient.exe. I have a copy from the 2000 server CD but would of course prefer the latest one that includes all the hot fixes (its about 3.5Mb in stead of about 2.95Mb).

I believe the problem was resolved, although I can't recall how. The company where I worked that had this problem, has sonce closed, so I am sorry I can't be of much help.

Thanks,
Mike
