I hanve a XP windows network ...

on c: of one machine have a diretory called ESTATE

and a couple of sub dirs .... PROG and DATA

From the other machine I need to access these directories
run a couple of programs from ....

when I set up pif it seems that I have Mapped ESTATE as drive G: and PROG and DATA seem to be top level Folders

consequently I get working Dir of G:\PROG

These programs have Hard coded \estate\prog\ in them ...

is anybody able to tell me what I have done wrong ... or what I need to do to access these programs and their data

Thank You

Have you tried a simple share then remapping them. That might help.

You're probably failing to state the working volume for those programs

\ means root of the volume where you are. If those programs start on any c: subdirectory, \ will mean c:\ for them.

Cheers,
Dian

Sorry so long replying ... But my wife insisted I take her on a holiday ...... She wanted to try spending money in another Country .... She suceeded .....

Tzvier :

Dian :

my problem sees to be in the set up of the pif ....

browse for Program gives me

\PROG\Programname

browse for working directory gives me

\PROG

Would it help if i Moved the C:\Estate\Sub dirs .... to

C:\Someplace\ESTATE\sub dirs ....

and mapped that ?

Peter

from the machine your mapping from Try Enviroment variables, from device manager/advanced, then add a new variables = MAPROOTOFF with a value of 1 See if this helps

Never Has Technical Looked This Good

Yes, ESTATE should be a sub under your "C:\Program Files" on the serving computer. Then you would map G to that computers "Program Files" folder giving you your desired

G:\ESTATE\sub dirs ....

Why are you bothering with PIF files anyway?

How many clients are involved in this? Map your drive then create shortcuts to the executables. Right click the shortcut and there you can choose the working directory.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
