I have an AD and have added a batch file into the sysvol and edited the users profile. The batch maps a network drive on login. Sometimes it maps and other times it doesn't and i'm not sure why. I have laptops and i was wondering if this might be the problem. The laptops are syspred but when they are being built they use the the naming convention XP- mac address. We do not use the wireless connection only the oboard nic card. I have noticed that in the AD under computer accounts they are installed with the xp-mac address for the wireless card. Do you think this could be a problem or is it more likely to be a dhcp error ?

Dump the batch file and use GPO with vbScript. Refer to my FAQ for all you need to get it working.

I hope you find this post helpful.

As long as the name of the PC matches the name of the PC's account in AD, then what MAC address you use in the name is irrelevant.

I agree with Mark, go to .VBS. Also, there are settings in group policy that will force Windows to wait for the network to initialize before presenting the logon prompt. Those settings are disabled by default, so sometimes a PC will process GPOs and other logon info before it is connected to the network. If that were happening, then your script might be executing before there is connectivity to map the drive.

Thanks for that. I'll have a look into the Group policy on the OU container for these users.
