i am a mac novice I was able to map one mac in our office to our windows server by going to the finder and going to connect to server, then it prompted me for a user name and password.
I did that and it worked fine.
I tried the exact thing on another mac and it would never prompt me for the user name or password it just kept saying i had the wrong one.
What do i need to do?
Thanks

Check to see if you are connecting using the right protocol, it should be SMB.

Are you already connected to another share on the server? it sounds like the server knows about your macs user name \ machine name.

It might be worth checking on the server itself to see if the mac has a connection there already (locked files\shares etc).

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

this is a brand new windows server this mac has never connected to it. the only thing i have done is tried to map a drive and I always get the username password problem

I've seen that Mac/Windows integration can sometimes be fussy about the case of the workgroup/domain name. Make sure you match it exactly.
