Hi All,
Does anyone know how to log a drive without logging on to a server? Reason: We have a back-tier application on a server that needs to access data on another machine - There are too many hard-coded references to drive letter to simply replace with a UNC path in the app, so I really need to be able to present a drive letter to the operating system without having to have the console logged on.

Thanks in advance

Pete

Are you using active directory with 2000 or above clients, if so you can add a station logon script in group policy.

It's in Computer Config - Windows Settings - Startup / Shutdown scripts.

Hope that helps.

Try this. We use it all the time. Start, Run, type the name of the server you want to map to. A pop up will show to enter logon name and password. Make sure you use the domain name that holds your logon name with your logon name in this pop up. Hit OK and let it connect. Once the connection is made select Tools, Map Network Drive, select the drive letter you want then UNC the path to map on the server you connected to. You should now be mapped with full credentials with the ability to use the mapped drive as a local drive. Hope this helps.

I should have mentioned that you need to \\servername at Run and when the mapping util is up.
