So I have 6.1.5 IP500v2 with VMPro and OneX on the Linux App Server. I have contact store server (on a separate windows PC), it looks like I can get this to work if I can figure out how to map a drive on the contact store server to the Avaya App Server.

From the knowledgebase:

If ContactStore is to be installed on a separate machine from the Voicemail Pro server:
1. Check that the Voice Recording Library folder (by default c:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Voicemail Pro\VM\VRL) on the Voicemail Pro server is visible as a network share from the ContactStore server.
2. Configure your security so that the ContactStore service can read and write to the share for that folder.
3. Create and set a registry key on the ContactStore server to tell ContactStore the location of the share. Set the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Alchemy\Voicemail\Directories\VRLDir to be a string containing the name of the share.

So looking online via google, it would seem that I could maybe use Samba on the Avaya App Server, I should be able to map a drive from the windows contact store server to the Avaya App Server, and then via the knowledgebase get contact-store to work even though VMPro is on Linux.

So has anyone already done this? Am I going about this the wrong way? This is my first exposure to Linux.

IPGuru,

I have an idea and i think you can help me with that.
I think that the linux device can act as a vpn server for vpn phones too.
I think it should be possible to configure this.
Do you have any experience with that?
A second nic on a public ip should do the trick.
I know Mitel uses it too only i do not know if they use ipsec for this.

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

I have not played with VPN on Linux (yet)
for access to my home server I use ssh & local port forwarding so havn't had the need

There are a few VPN solutions available so it should not be possible, I may have to start "Playing"

The Avaya instalation does include dnsmasq which is a dns proxy with a dhcp server & tftp server, if enabled & configured It can be quite usefull for providing the info required by IP handsets ( I use it with my soe at home).
Do you still have my e-mail address from an earlier thread, if so contact me direct & we ca see whre we get to (I have had a slap accross the knuckles from tek-tipls latley so cant put it in here)
if not I can probably set up a protected web page for you to get it (that seem to be allowed).

I have the Centos.base.repo working with this in it:

Code:
[base]
name=CentOS-$releasever - Base
mirrorlist=[URL unfurl="true"]http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$releasever&arch=$basearch&repo=os[/URL]
#baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/os/$basearch/
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=[URL unfurl="true"]http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-centos4[/URL]
Then indeed yum install samba samba-swat

It then installs all that is needed.

Yep once the Centos Repos are left in place many things are much easier :)

I have your email & will send you my details tonight ( look out for a msg from Alister Ware)

Brief investigations on VPN suggest that openswan is probably the all singing all dancing solution (& Is in the CentOS repo)

otherwise for a basic pptp vpn poptop is the one to use but becaue of the security flaws in pptp it is no longer included in the repo so wuld have to be installed form an rpm or source.

OK i will look tonight.
A pptp is not very interesting for me but can be handy.
I rather see IPsec with xauth for the vpn phones.
It sucks that every customer has a different router and many do not work.
I rather see a linux machine taking care of it and when IP Office runs on it in the future then it works very well.

I also put some update stuff in the centos.repo file and now it is broken :)
It kept installing 73 updates over and over again.

Anyone who upgraded to 7.0.6.1???
It seems they broke SSH.
I can enter a password but it comes back as wrong password which is not true.

I cant believe they have managed to break ssh logins
unless of course they have forgot to ammend the default sshd .config file that is cofigured to prevent root login by default
unfortunatly Idont have access to V7.0 :-(

After rhe installation i cannot connect with ssh secure client or putty.
On the machine itself the login works fine.

Deffinetly sounds like a problem with the ssh config file then

you need to edit /etc/ssh/sshd_config (note the d!)

look for a line that starts PermitRootLogin
it should be yes not no

I will try that later.
I am already doing another installation (can't count it anymore)
But i will upgrade (read full install and not an upgrade) our inhouse system to 7.0.6.1
Then i will look for it.

I have the Centos.base.repo working with this in it:

That is not the right one.
It is for CentOS 4 and not 5

This is the right one:

Code:
# CentOS-Base.repo
#
# This file uses a new mirrorlist system developed by Lance Davis for CentOS.
# The mirror system uses the connecting IP address of the client and the
# update status of each mirror to pick mirrors that are updated to and
# geographically close to the client. You should use this for CentOS updates
# unless you are manually picking other mirrors.
#
# If the mirrorlist= does not work for you, as a fall back you can try the
# remarked out baseurl= line instead.
#
#

[base]
name=CentOS-5 - Base
mirrorlist=[URL unfurl="true"]http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=5&arch=i386&repo=os[/URL]
#baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/os/i386/
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=[URL unfurl="true"]http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-5[/URL]
