Hello,
This client wants to set up a mandatory profile for a few departments. AD is 2003 and clients are XP and W2K Professional.
Going back to the old days, here is what I did:
Created a shared folder on network (i.e. \\servername\mandatory)
Created a new user account
Logged into an XP machine with the new account
Made the desktop/shortcut settings I wanted
Logged off
Logged into that machine as a domain admin
went to control panel/system and selected advanced to see profiles
selected the profile created with the test user and chose "copy to
Now, here is where I run into an issue. According to the KB articles, it says to "specify the UNC path where you want the profile stored, then hit OK and select "permitted to use" and add the user/group who is permitted to use this profile".....
If I follow those steps, after putting in the path and selecting "permitted to use" and choosing everyone (I even tried an individual user account), once I hit OK, I get the following error message
"\\servername\sharename the current folder alread exists. The currect files will be deleted during this operation"
I hit OK, and then get this
\\servername\sharename directory could not be deleted. Please delete the directory and retry ?????
I've tried it another time where I simpy put in the UNC path to copy the profile to without selecting the "permitted to use" field and sure enough, it copies the profile to the network..
I'm simply trying to create an easy profile to store on the network, then rename from ntuser.dat to ntuser.man but CAN'T
