Hi,

I'm new to/on a rapid learning curve for IP Office.

Let's say we have an organisation with multiple IP Offices at various versions.

E.g. An old version (say 4.0) on an IP 412 on site A, and 6.0 on an IP500v2 control unit on site B. There are many other sites with various versions and different control unit types.

I believe the phones on site A would load their firmware required from the management PC on site A.

So from a perspective of managing the IPO (both making changes and providing firmware to the phones), does that mean site A would need to have management version for 4.0, and site B management verion for 6.0 on a different PC? Or would you have one management PC with say the latest version, to manage and provide phone firmware etc across the entire organisation?

Also from a remote support perspective, if we support this organisation, what would we need in terms of version of manager....or would we need access to each and every management PC? Let's also say they have a PC holding the licenses, rather than on the SD card, I assume we would need access to this too, as well as potentially any application servers?

In terms of making changes, how would we manage this? Would we need to access the individual management PCs, have one version ourselves and ISDN connect directly to all the IPOs, or how would we achieve this?

Thanks in anticipation.

the latest manager(s) are all backwards compatible with older versions of firmware.

anything under 3.2 use the appropriate manager, but from there up, just use what ever the latest you have.

but, a rel 6.0 manager will not open a 6.1 switch, and this applies on all versions, the manager isnt forward compatible.

2.1 is the release for backwards compatibility

Just make sure the manager/or tftp server for each site has the correct .BIN files

To administer earlier versions form your own PC you just need the Manager.exe @ ops files for the earlier versions in there own directories
connect via isdn using Dialup Networking ,or configure services in a spare IPO on site if you dont have too many (Approx 90 seesm to be the limit on newer firrmware releases )

I do not Have A.D.D. im just easily, Hey look a Squirrel!

What i always do is install a new manager.
After the install i copy the complete folder called Manager.
I then rename it to Manager_version number

Then when there is a newer version then install that one.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

One hint if you need to get a old set of firmware files and haven't been methodical like tlpeter is that you don't have to install the old Manager (or at least not the newer old builds). All the firmware files are on the Admin CD/DVD from which you would install Manager as a uncompressed set in the \program files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager folder.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but i was looking for such an answer.

Judging from the above, if i have an IP Office 403 running 3.2 (67) and another site running a 406V2 running 4.2 (17), i can simply install 4.2 (23) and use that to manage and configure both of them and it wont cause problems when i apply configs to the older 403 system.

Is that right?

Correct, but you may as well use 4.2.17 manager, there is no gain going higher and using the correct level means you have all the right bin files (for one system anyway) if needed :)

Thanks,
I don't have access to 4.2.17, the software that came with the system is unavailable and the Avaya website and IPOfficeinfo only have .15 or .23

Is there anywhere else i can look for intern builds?

Just use the latest 4.2 or 5 and upgrade the system to match (just the 406), doesn't take long at all :)
