Hello folks,

I have had MySql installed on a client's Windows 2003 server and MS ODBC driver 3.51. Using OLEDB driver for ODBC I am able to connect to the remote MySql database, view the structure, and add/modify data, all using Server Explorer, but I am not able to change the structure, such as add a new table, modifiy an existing table, etc. Is there a configuration issue with MySql or does the driver not suppor this? I have read that this can be done with Unix or Linux. I am using Visual Studio.NET 2003 with Windows XP Professional.

Thanks!

Sandy

If you are using Visual Studio .NET Professional, the IDE does not have the full database tool set within Server Explorer. This restriction means you cannot alter the structure of database objects, you can only view them and retrieve data from them.

You need Enterprise version or above for the full toolset, although I have no experience of mySQL so it may just be a restriction of the Server Explorer for that particular DB.

Thank you for your quick response, Shelton. Yes, I am using the Professional edition.....bummer.

I am new to vb.net and MySQL. I am trying to connect to MySQL (installed on my machine for now) through the Server Explorer and can't get to the data - I connect to the db, can view the tables and fields but when I try to drag a field onto the form I get the message "You cannot use an ole db provider for ODBC drivers" - and I am using MyODBC - any suggestions are greatly appreciated
