I have a dell notebook PC with Windows XP. I need to connect to a customer site via Cisco VPN client version 4.0. Using the Linksys WPC11 wireless card, I can connect to the VPN, but cannot even ping anything once connected. I tried connecting with the Linksys WUSB11 USB wireless device I use with one of my desktops, and everything worked perfectly. I am connecting through the BEFW11S4. Has anyone had success connecting through a Cisco VPN with the WPC11? Linksys tech support states that there are no known issues with this (though they did say they would look into it...when I don't know). Thanks.

I have heard nothing but problems using the WPC11 Version 4 (the new one) with Cisco VPN.

As far as I know at present there is not a solution other than to return the card and try another brand. The Orinoco Gold card, Dell True Mobile, Dlink, Siemans and Zyxel have all been shown to work.

Take it back.

I too have had this problem I was told there is a new driver comming from linksys. The Should tell people that this product does not work for its intended use.

Catch Me I AM FALLING

I too have tried connecting to my company using Cisco VPN Client V 3.6 and WPC11 version 4 and have NOT been unable to connect. It finds the VPN server connects but then I cannot ping anything nor use outlook. I also cannot access the internal web nor the internet.

Has anybody gotten this to work yet?

Thanks,
Emilio

The Linksys site drivers for Version 4 of the WPC11 have problems with Ipsec tunnels, but not PPTP tunnels.

There is a beta releases of the new driver set around available, and it is supposed to cure this defect: ftp://ftp.linksys.com/beta/wpc11v4_061303.zip

The Linksys Forum on Broadbandreports.com has had a lively discussion, ongoing, on this issue:
Try the new driver set. At the moment I honestly do not know if the problem with Ipsec tunnels has been fixed.

Please report back your own findings.

Note: There are no issues that I have seen with Version 3 of the WPC11 and Ipsec or PPTP VPN.

Ok, I finally got the WPC11 Version 4 card to work. I downloaded the following driver, which I got from the thread: ftp://ftp.linksys.com/beta/wpc11v4_061303.zip. I installed it and it worked. I am now sitting in my living room writing this. Thank you very much

Thanks,
Emilio Gonzalez

Catch Me I AM FALLING

Well, at least it no longer is on your end. Be sure you have enable Ipsec passthru on your router.

Have you checked the technical tips on the Cisco Site? They give specific port requirements for their client. Send them to the remote site administrator so that the appropriate ports are opened.

Try this one, downloaded Dr. TCP..set the mtu of wpc11v4 to 1200.. and then give feedback. I've tried it and work. try it.

travusio,

I all the effort to get the drivers updated for Ipsec problems, I forgot that basic tip about MTU. Some say you can do 1400 with the Cisco VPN client, but I never managed it. Around 1200 should work.

Thanks for the reminder.

crptech,

I have spent a lot of posts on a lot of threads here to distinguish between the Intersil versions of the chipset used in Versions 1, 1.1, 2, 2.5 and 3; and the Intersil and Broadcom chips used in Versions of 4, only to have you come along and say that RealTek makes the chipset.

Linksys at times has used RealTek for their ethernet PCI adapters. But they have never used RealTek chipsets for the wireless WPC11 PCMCIA or CardBus adapters. Ever.

RealTek does not make an 802.1x compliant reference chipset that I have ever heard of, and neither has RealTek according to their Web site.

Criptech,

I spoke with RealTek and they have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. They have never offered an 802.11b chipset to Linksys or anyone else.

Your link is for their Ethernet adapter chipset on wired adapters.

The IPSEC issue with the WPC11 Version 4 adapter is a closed issue with the driver software I have provided links to for nearly two months.

What exactly are you trying to do here?
