Hi ... hoping you can help me again

I have a report listing:
Job No. Due Date Hours + more etc

Without the detail hidden the report will list line after line, all showing the same job no.
All lines with the same job no will have the same date - other fields will differ

Have grouped by Job no & totalled - all working fine

Now they require the report to be changed to sort in due date order, but the grouping of job no is still required

How can I make a sort the primary one without creating a group for it. I don't want to group by due date, as 2 different jobs could have the same date.

Or have I just answered my own question .... do I have to have 2 groups?

Thanks
Helen

hi
just change your second group to due date

cheers

Hi

There was only one group for job no
If I create a second group for due date it's still treating the job no as the primary sort
If I reverse them I get garbage

Is there someway to leave the 1 group (job no) in place but force it to sort by date first?

Thanks
Helen

hi
yes go to your tool bar
click on report
and then below you see sort
click on it and insert the fild you want sorted and click ascending and then ok

cheers

Hi again

Sorry, but I can't get that to work because there is a group in place which it's sorting on as the primary sort

I want to leave that group in place but force it to sort on due date first

Thanks
Helen

hi
you have 3 option
1: create a group on due date and move it to the top as first sort
2: create a sub report that has only the due date in it
3: create a fake page header

cheers

It's a little hard to tell what you're trying to achieve, but if you want to sort the job number GROUPS by date, then insert a summary (minimum or maximum) on the date, and then go to report->topN/group sort and choose the date summary date function to sort the groups by. If this is not what you were looking for, please provide an example of how you would like the report to look.
