Our PRI circuit has 4 pipes and they have been configured as loop 2, 3, 18 and 19.

All inbound calls are using the channels in ascending order (loop 2 channel 1 up to loop 19 channel 23).
All outbound calls are using the channels in descending order (loop 19 channel 23 down to loop 2 channel 1).

I would like to make a test outgoing call via specific PRI pipe.
One way of doing it would be to disable some the channels, but it seems to be unproductive.
For example, if I want to make a test call out on loop2, I have to disable all the channels in loop 18 and 19.

Is there a way to seize a channel from specific pipe to make a test outbound call from an 1140E set?
I vaguely recalled seeing it done before by a technician, but I don't know how to do it.

Thank in advance!

If you have Attendant Consoles, those are the easiest to test trunks - you do this: Loop Key, Barge In, Route Access Code, Member Number

If you want to use a phone, give the phone CLS MTA. Then you want to take a look at the books. You will go in LD36 via the phone, and do the "TRK" command.

Accessing through the maintenance telephone
1. Press the prime DN key.
2. Place the set in maintenance mode by entering: xxxx91
Where: "xxxx" is the customer Special Prefix (SPRE) number. It is defined in the
Customer Data Block and can be printed using LD 21. The SPRE number is typically
"1" (which means you would enter 191).
3. Check for busy tone by entering "return": ##
a. If there is no busy tone, go to Step 4.
b. If there is a busy tone, a program is active. To end an active program and
access the system enter: ****
4. Load a program by entering: 53#xx##
• "xx" represents the number of the overlay program
5. Perform tasks.
6. To exit the program and return the telephone to call processing mode, enter: ****

So it would be something like this then for accessing loop 3 channel 23 to make a test call to 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx?

SPRE+91
53#36##
TRK#3#23##
1-xxx-xxx-xxxx
****

Yep, that is the procedure from a phone.
# is space and ## is return

* is star.

I don't think you will be able to make a call on a PRI trunk from a maintenance phone.
Dialing signals on a PRI are sent via the D-channel messages as a complete string. But the maintenance phone dials in-band, sending tones or pulses on the trunk itself, in this case the B-channel. The far end isn't going to do anything. So you won't be able to actually dial anything.
Works great for analog trunks though.

Ah yes - Well put Steamer. The Attendant Console does work, if I remember right. Do you remember?

Ah, well, we don't have an attendant console any more. Basically, we switched over to use Contact Center phones to answer operator calls instead.

So am I out of luck then?
That means I would have to take loop 18 and 19 out of service in order to test loop 3, which may cause a service interruption to the end-users.

I just used a maintenance phone on my PBX and sent a call out on a specific PRI and Channel, worked fine.

Interesting that it works for you KC.
Maybe it depends on the type of PRI trunks. I typically work with ISA trunks.
What type trunks did you try it on?

ISA trunks I can understand where you have a master route and service routes. Mine is a NI2 PRI, 2 way DID.

Confirmed. I can use a maintenance set to make a test call out a specific PRI channel.
Thank everyone for your assistance!
