I would like to know if anybody knows how to make a 2D AutoCAD drawing from a 3D MDT 6 drawing, that can be modified in the 2D form, but not update the 3D form. I can get the 2D drawing but AutoCAD will not let me change the profile of the MDT 6 drawing in AutoCAD 2002. The picture is there but there is no properties of any lines. What I need the 2D profile for is to get plate cutout by an automatic laser which uses a 2D program to input the points in. They will not accept a 3D drawing from me, and that is all I have, and it is a fairly complex part with a lot of holes and cutouts so redrawing is almost out of the question, unless absolutely necessary. Any help would be greatfull, thanks a lot.

Hi,

I use SOLPROF to get 2D drawings from 3D solids - when it works it works well..........when it doesn't, I just plot to a DXB file.

Either way, you get a 2D drawing.

Hope this helps,

When you plot to a DXB file do you get the electronic copy in a 2D format. I send the drawings via e-mail to these cutting places and they use the electronic copy to create a cutting profile for me. If there are any 3D lines involved the program for plate cutting does not work. So if I draw something in 3D and then need to get a plate cut out I need to re-draw the plate in 2D AutoCAD saved as another drawing. What I would like to do is just send over the Mechanical Desktop Drawing but as a 2D drawing, or import the drawing into AutoCAD 2002 and create a 2D drawing but I don't know how to get AutoCAD to read the drawing. As soon as the drawing opens up all of the properties of the lines are lost and the lines won't even highlight to allow you to stretch or move them.
