Make this folder private

How can I turn this function on? I have xp pro, sp2. I can share just fine, but can't use the make folder private private option. It is grayed out. How cqan I make a directory private/password protected or even hidden?
 
Are you logged on as an administrator.The folder properties are where you change the attribute of a folder. Windows will show the attribute in run> cmd> C:\Directory\sub directory >attrib
