I am green to the Nortel or any phone switch for that matter. My first experience with telephone switches was two weeks ago. Iapologize up front for a stupid question that has probably been asked before, but I refuse to let a piece of machinery whip my butt. Everyone in my shop uses the command line interface and there are no books or guides to learn the commands, I have to grab someone and tie them down to talk me through how to do things. I found the GUI side and have figured out how to use it and am getting proficient very quickly, my problem is when you use the command line, your changes are instant, in the GUI when I hit “Transmit” it says it goes but I was told that it won’t sync with the switch till midnight. How do I get real time sync’s on the GUI side? Yes I know that the command line is faster but I really want to stick with the GUI if possible.

Thanks in advance!

no, not that i know of. but that is one for 40 reasons no one used the gui.. it's to slow and to stupid. we had one idiot here that thought she could use the lazy way until she deleted a scheduled task, and ended up deleting 60 phones on the exec floor... she now works in the mail room.

i can change 500 phones an hour from command using basic scripts.. or one change every two minutes using just command line.. it does take a while to learn, but unlike the gui, it will not change ever 6 months.. you can find the manuals online, it's worth your time imo

If you just want to get by then the GUI is probably okay for you.

However, if you want to learn, and be a better tech, get the manuals and understand what you are doing.

The more I dig, the more I see that you are right, I don’t understand why in Hades someone makes a GUI interface and then makes it to where using it shoots yourself in the face? So no way to do a real time Sync, well I guess I need to learn the command line then.

Thanks for the quick reply, it is much appreciated.

once you transmit the chganges, it queue up in the schedule task window. if you go into the schedule task and select your task that's queue up and right click and say run now...

Definitely going to learn the command line but I still want to learn the GUI so when someone screws up I know how to fix.

GUI and realtime depends upon the release you are on and what tool you are using..
- TM (Telephony Manager - used to be referred to as OTM) is an off-line tool and needs to be synced
- EM (Element Manager) is a reatime online tool.

Just remember if you program in the command line it does not sync with the TM or EM by itself. You will need to perform a retrieve TN or retrieve ALL and reconcile the TNs if you plan on keeping the TM or EM reconciled with the PBX.

You only have to worry about a "sync" with TM because maintains an off-line copy of the information.

EM works directly with the CS 1000 (no offline database) so there is no sync. If you make a change with the web interface of EM, then it is concurrently being made on the CS 1000.
