I have a backup that i am having problems with

the backup runs at 7pm and the users usually put the tape in at 8:30am-9am

now the problem is the some times they forget to put the tape in and it causes the backup to sit until the next day.
the job then runs on the wrong tape causing a problem

I have played with the backup window option with no success

how can i make the job fail if there is no tape 20-30mis after the start time?

I dont think you can, use overwrite protection scheme to prevent writing to the wrong tape is all I can suggest

I'm not sure that it's available in earlier versions cause I only use 10, but you can tell the job to cancel if not finished within X amount of hours. Go into the job properties, click on the Priority and Availability, and there you can set the checkbox for auto cancel.
