make error on Solaris 8

Hi all,

I'm trying to compile postfix 2.1.3 on Solaris 8 and I've run into difficulties.

When running

make

It runs along a little while then errors with the following.

sh: ar: not found
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `libutil.a'
Current working directory /export/home/postfix-2.1.3/src/util
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `update'
#

I've done some hunting on libutil and the /usr/ccs/bin issue of setting /usr/ccs/bin in the shell path which it is.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Is there an 'ar' installed in /usr/ccs/bin?

Yes it is

If you can do 'ar -t /usr/lib/libc.a' or some other .a file on the command line and you still get the above error, something in the make file must be resetting your path.
