Hi we have a helpdesk extension at work and I would like to install a cordless analogue phone and have both ringing from this 1 extension number.

so here is the current setup
customer rings ext 890 and the current phone rings

what I would like is
customer ring current helpdesk ext rings plus the analogue (which is already has an extension

To achieve this I
• Created a new extension and mapped the current Helpdesk number to that (say ext 838)
• Created a new virtual extension on the old number 890
• Mapped the new ext 838 message lamp to 890
• Create a second coverage group with new extension and analogue number is it and the other staff members ext in it
• Created a cover path that would point to the first answer coverage group

This seemed to work but the problem I had was that the helpdesk operators message lamp does not light up if someone leaves a message. I know that the message is being left on the voice message mailbox 890 and I thought by mapping the message lamp of ext 838 to 890 this would have solved this issue.

I wondering now should I have set up a VDN?

Hi John

Try this:

add term-ext-group 890

now assigned the extension from the two phones.

Thanks ralphino, only the ringer on the analogue rang. The lights on the digital lit up but no sound. Also the message light did not light up.

Just put bridge call alerting on Y on station form page 2.

Then the phones will ring!!!

Hi John

1st. step

On page 1 of the station form make sure that the extension listed on the 'Message Lamp Ext' is the same as the helpdesk ( term-ext-group).As standard is the own extesion given.

2nd. step

To get access to VM from both stations

Add both extension by "secondary extension" in the local subscriber mailbox form "Helpdesk" on your ModularMessaging.

Thanks you guys for the posting. In the end it turned out that I have created a vircual type station when I should have create a real station with a vircual port (x). Once I had doen this the Aut-msg-wt light worked.
