A while back I posted about an issue with handsets losing their base extensions, possibly due to delays re-registering to secondary server which resulted in us disabling the secondary server for good.

Since then we have been having problems with another SE installation, where huntgroups would no longer be visible, users disappearing and again handsets losing base numbers. The advice in this case was to upgrade from 9.1.7 to 9.1.10 which we attempted tonight, however the upgrade failed part way through and we now found ourselves in a position where web manager will no longer start (clicking start does nothing) unable to access the config as it gives an error stating the server may be offline or on a version earlier thsn 3.2 and unable to get into aecurity settings.

Not being able to get into web manager means we can't downgrade/upgrade so not sure what to do?? The phones appear to be working, along with voicemail but the system is clearly not happy. Can it be saved??

Have we been unlucky with the server edition installs we have done or is it a very unstable product? I'm starting to think our distributors have been told by Avaya to say it is the first time they have seen such issues....

There is a patch for Manager 9.1.10 which overcomes the message about the wrong version though.

Seems to make no difference, use the patche manager.
Can you telnet into the box? If yes then login and perform a security reset there.

I have seen this kind of issues.
Very important is not to save the config if you did not use a computer with manager before on that system.
I have seen that it will give a popup to consolidate while it is not necessary.
This is a while ago so maybe they fixed that.
Another thing is to use different extension number for hotdesking.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

you will need burn the ISO image to CD (ir make a usb stick from it) & boot from that.

if headless follow the instructions in the UCM install guide to make so that it runs unattended, I would try the upgrade option again first but you may need a full re-install.

I feel your pain! A couple of those patches were from what I went through. I would contact Avaya and have them get Tier 3 on the phone.
It was so painful I didn't care if I ever saw another IPO again.

Hunt groups- I would us the same manager version the IPO is on in this particular instance and you should be good.

I used to have super powers but my therapist took them away...

IPGuru, as I understand it you have to use Web manager to start the upgrade. Booting from dvd, USB will install from scratch :( is that right?

oops somebody didn't read the post, web manager isn't coming up for him.

DVD/USB can be used for upgrades as well as installations it all depends on how they are configured

"Out of the Box" - interactive installation process that will prompt for upgrade or Full Install (needs keyboard & monitor)

Headless options (No Keyboard & monitor) installation mode is triggered by the presence of an empty file the root directory of the boot media & can be either upgrade or install, these files can be found in the USB subdirectory.

Thanks IPGuru

The ipo element is on 9.1.10 but vm, web manager, and all other services are stuck on 9.1.7

Presumably, I'll need to wait until a new version of 9.1 to come out however I upgrade?

Tried opening config with version 9.1.10 manager and still get error "IP Office not found. Device might be offline or have version older than 3.2" :(

Going to site to rebuild the whole server tomorrow. Going to upgrade the system to R10 at the same time. Best to do an upgrade using USB or complete re-install if certain elements are failing? Will the system ID change once I rebuild it meaning the licenses will have to be re-created?

So I've just carried out a USB upgrade to R10 and the phones failed over to secondary server without a problem. The issue is that it would appear the handsets won't upgrade to R10 unless I physically reboot them as they just switch between primary and secondary depending which is up. How do you force the phones to upgrade without rebooting each of them?

I was about to say how impressed I was that the upgrade went so smoothly...

No standard voicemail prompts it would seem... Custom auto attendant greeting is there... :S

No Std VM prompts sounds like quite a major issue

you may be able to restore them with a bit of work but to me it would be indicative of other (possibly far bigger ) problems

a full rebuild bay be the most prudent option

I don't know whether this will help you but my one and only server edition outside of my lab system started doing funny things after the IT people moved it onto a larger server without telling me. It was processing calls OK but voicemail could not be left and one-X showed as running with the correct memory usage but wouldn't actually run. It appeared that it was filling the disk up with error messages from one-X due to some problem with Java. It got to the point after a week or so where the disk completely filled and I couldn't access it with web manager. Avaya couldn't help me.

The first time I overcame the problem was by deleting all the old messages out of mailboxes - especially large ones - to give me just enough disk space to open web manager and see what was going on. As a result I put multi-megabyte files into a number mailboxes so I would have something to delete to get back some disk space.

I've turned one-X off as the customer doesn't use it and I think it will be a nightmare to troubleshoot as I don't have proper access to the server and will have to get the IT people to do what I need.

Everything is working for me apart from the VM prompts sounds like a other major issue. Great product huh!

I guess I need to copy the wav directory using SSH. Would it be en folder for UK rather than enu? Anyone had to do this before?

Did you get it to copy? We had some file permission issues once copying to SE but have a workaround if you still need it. I think.
