Major Media Player problem

Error message when trying to play video

The instruction as "0x1d1c4e86" referenced memory at "0x000000000". The memory could not be "read".

This is the same with any program that uses media player, even in the smallest possible way to play a video.

Things I've tried:
Rolling back Media Player and upgrading it again
Reinstalling Directx9

If you have any idea it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Perhaps installing (or reinstalling) SP3. SP4 is out, not sure if you want to try it. I installed it on a test machine, it seems to run fine after the install.

You might also reinstall your video card drivers.

Strangely enough I just installed SP3, a while before the error started though.

Well, reinstalling the video drivers didn't work, I'll wait for a few more suggestions before installing SP4.

Do you receive any messages in your event viewer? Also, have you run an up-to-date virus scan? I also suggest installing spybot, updating that, and cleaning out spywares.

Um....I just realised, Media player's trying to open around 5 different codecs for one video (video, not audio) stream....that sure aint right.

Hmm, I just tried playing the video with the DivX Player, and it works fine...at least now I know it's a problem with Media Player now..

I had upgraded one of my PC's to MP9 from the Microsoft Page and it completely borked that PC.

I wrestled with it for about a day, then I just realized that reinstalling was actually faster and easier than trying to figure out what little 'gremlin' could be in the system.

I got a whole plethera of errors ranging from memory errors, BSOD and just plain lock-ups.

Is this MP9 you are talking about? Maybe our installs were corrupt or something, heck, hard to say.

Well, actually I've rolled back, reinstalled MP9, tried, reinstalled MP9 while 9 was still installed, still absolutely nothing.

Good news!.....Kinda everything started working all of a sudden, no restarts, no nothing....
It's been like this for 3 days

Mattjurado, are you suggesting that 2000 Pro users install SP4? I've been reading nothing but problems after do so. Is there something I should make sure I do beforehand? How do I get a Ghost of my system before I try to install?

It was just a suggestion... Notice I said "not sure if you want to try it." This is because there are always issues that arise after a new service pack. I installed it once, I didn't have any issues. Its up to you.

You Ghost your system using Symantec Ghost. You can Ghost your hard drive to another one, or create an image file that you can store somewhere else (i.e. a network drive).
