We have four Bull Escala servers running AIX 4.3.3-10. We are considering to move to AIX 4.3.3-11 (Where can I find the procedure to do this (especially where clustering is involved)?
Can the maintenance patches be removed if anything goes wrong ??

Thanks
Kenneth

It’s best to gout to IBM’s website to pull down the latest PTF’s. Yes, you can back out of maintenance levels If you only APPLY the changes and not COMMIT. You may want to try to run an alternate install. This will allow you to clone your rootvg and apply the changes to the copy and keep the original in tact. To go back just change your bootlist and your back to the original ml level.

When you install the PTFs and just APPLY them, be sure to also select saving the old versions, in case you need to do a backout.

Perfrom a mksysb before the operation.
This is the most powefull way to come back quickly without problem.

I never done an "non COMMIT software UPDATES + save replice files" for a FULL ML.
It's too many files and takes too much place on the disk.

To move form ML10 to 11 it's not an obligation if you don't really need it.
But to move from AIX 4.33 to AIX 5.L start to be more important.
