Hi,

Does anyone know really what the differences are between the Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option and the System Recovery Option ?

Does anyone have a preference or comment on either option or can give a good example of why one would be used over the other or even perhaps how they would be used together ?

Thanks

Kevin.

In 11d for Backup Exec the IDR will load a OS and run the restore from tape/disk.
System recover is a disk to disk solution.

So if you use BESR you run a disk to disk backup then you can grab the disk images to to tape. Naturally if you had to restore from a few days back you need to restore the image and then restore the files.

System recovery is better on BareMetal restores to differenct hardware.

Steve,

Costs aside for a minute, which option (in your opinion)would be better to purchase ? We've only typically had the IDR option but the problem has always been keeping an up-to-date IDR image of the servers (and keeping the DR disks updated). I'd rather have one image to build once then a series of backups that run automatically in order to get the system up to date again.

The System recovery option seems good to be able to restore to different hardware in the event of a failure....

I guess the one downside could be that we'd need more disk space in order to accomodate all of the backups/images..

I like Backup Exec system recovery when it comes to get the server back up. I have never used it with Exchange yet or any databases since.

I use both products in combination. Take a image backup every few days with BESR. THen use BEWS to grab file in between or user the agent backup for Exchange SQL.

So I cant answer your question on on which to pick either/or. I use both. I have to say BESR is a amazing product.

Steve,

I might be wrong but I thought Backup Exec Windows Server has an addon agent of system recovery (apparently a slimed down version) as well as the IDR agent option.

I think your referring to the full blown Backupexec System Recovery ver 7.0 ?

I was more trying to get a feel of which addon option of Backup Exec Windows Server to buy, the IDR addon or the System recovery addon (slimmed down version) or both.

Snapshots could be useful... The part about dissimilar hardware and now restoring to virutal machines is interesting...
