Mailing a daily report 1

I've got several users that need to send out daily reports to about 30 outside companies/users.

We have an application that will automaticaly send the report to an email address. I was hoping to create an account (report@mycompany), and have the app send the report there. But how do I tell exchange to forward these reports to all the outside companies???

Is this even possible? Is there an easier way? I know a distribution list would be simple, but the application can only send to an email address....

Any ideas?

There is a couple of different ways you can do but as you said above a distribution is the best way. Each group has an eamil address that you can send to the group. Go to Exchange Administrator and open the group. Get the address and set that address in the report software. It will send to everyone in that group.

That's where you're thinking goes wrong. You're treating a distribution list as if it were not a real e-mail address when it is. So if you have a list called Alertlist1 and it has everybody on the list that you want you can just have your program send mail to alertlist1@yourdomain.com and it will work.

I have stacks of perl scripts and other types of tests that send mail to exchange distribution lists in this manner. Works just like you'd expect it to.

So I create a distribution list (alertlist1@mycompany) but how do I add outside addresses to populate it? It's easy enough to add internal addresses (schmuck@mycompany) but what about yahoo, hotmail, or addresses from other companies?

If it's possible, I'm don't know how modify the distrib list to include the outside addresses......the only options I have are to add names to the distrib list from the GAL....

This would be ideal. The app could send the report to the alert1@mycompany address, and exchange would forward it to the outside addresses.

I think I now just a little "how-to" with the outside addresses.

Ok, that's easy too...try this:

Create a custom recipient. First select New Custom Recipient (it's right up there with new mail box and new distribution list) That will give you a list of options of what type of address you're creating. So in this example you'd select Internet Mail, enter the e-mail address of the outside address. After that, you'll get a window that is the same as you get when adding an internal user, you just give the recipient an alias and a name to use in exchange and thats it.

After you make a custom recipient you can treat that address just like any other account in exchange. Just toss that on the distribution list and you're all set.
