Greetings All,

Can I create a mailbox without creating a user id in AD? We used to do this all the time in 5.5 but I can't seem to figure out how in 2000.

Thanks,
X2K

You'd probably be better off with a mail-enabled public folder. This provides much finer control over access and visibility, and has most of the features of a mailbox plus some extras.

What's it for?

We keep seperate mailboxes for info, webmaster, etc... I didn't want to use a public folder because everyone doesn't need to see it.

The answer to you first post is No I'm affraid you can have a User without a mailbox but not the other way around.

The public folder is a good idea, you can set permission on who can actually 'see' the folder. So set it to be 'visable' only to the required users and no one else will no it's there.

Also, if you are going to be receiving emails via smtp, make sure that "anonymous" has at least "create item" checked - nothing else is required.
