I have setup a new mailbox on my Exchange 2000 server. I am trying to setup Outlook to access this mailbox from an XP machine that is only in a workgroup. When i configure the mail profile the mailbox name is resolved straight away. When i open the mailbox i receive "you do not have permission to logon".

At no stage am i asked to enter my domain credentials which i would expect both on the "resolve mailbox name" and then again on mailbox access. I'm assuming there is an issue with the exchange server rather than the client. Searches of MS KB have not given me any insight.

The exchange server is installed on the DC and GC server if thats any help.

Are you logged onto the domain when you get the error message?

Check the DNS settings of the slient - should be pointing this to your internal dns usually distributed using DHCP.

if your machine is not a member of the domain when you set up the outlook profile you must go to the advance tab an set 'intergrated passord authentication' to 'none'
it will then give you a login bo when you open outlook
