Hi,

I'm running Exchange 2000. Everything works ok apart from when I get a lot of emails queueing to go out at the same time. It's usually emails with attachments on them.

Exchange will 'freeze' a message. It keeps trying to resend the message but can't. The only thing I can do is delete it from the queue. When I try to 'unfreeze' the mail, it won't do it.

What is happening here? Does anyone experience the same problem? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Please help, its driving me mad!

Thanking you all in advance

Gary

p.s
We have a 128k Leased line connection. I've thought about upgrading this to deal with queued mail better but I'm not sure if this will really solve the problem

In a couple of the Exchange 2000 service packs there were fixes for the sort of problem you're seeing. What Exchange service pack are you on? The current SP for Exchange 2000 is SP3.

Also, have you enabled SMTP logging and reviewed the logs? SMTP logging can be enabled in the Exchange system manager. The logs are stored in the \WINNT\SYSTEM32\LOGFILES\SMTPSVC1\ directory as text files. You might glean some insight that way.

Thanx for this. I think we are already on SP3 for exchange but I'm not sure how to check the version. I can't seem to find it in sys manager.

We have the log files enabled but there is so much data there and I'm not sure how to decypher it. Do you have a link that might throw some light it it all?

Thanks again

Gary,

You can identify exchange service pack level in System Manager. Highlight the server object (under administrative groups ... servers), right click and choose properties. You'll find the build and SP level on the General tab.
