hi
dunno if you tried exchange sp4 yet
we had some server reboot issues and also log files that continually grew and grew taking up hard drive space
and putting Exchange SP4 on cleared pretty much all those troubles up first time ?

dunno worth a go Tom Lodge

Have you checked the size of the priv and pub files recently after a reboot? If you're running Exch 5.5 standard edition - there is a 16G limit on these files, each.

Unless there is something else on your E: - one of these files could be taking up >16G and thus causing the IS to quit.

The 16G limit is a limitation of Standard Edition. The only way to go beyond is to install Enterprise Edition. (You don't have to lose your email data - though the wizard is a bit scary looking - it works well - I've had to upgrade a couple of my boxes.)

If this turns out to be your issue - you'll need to contact your sales rep for MS software and see what s/he can work out for you as far as an upgrade path goes. Along these lines, you might consider paying now for Exchange 2000 enterprise which I believe also licenses you for any previous versions of enterprise exchange. But your sales rep can answer all these questions much better than I.

Good luck,

What is your hard drive setup- Raid, Mirror etc.?
Let me know and I will try to answer.

priv.edb = 951,300 kb
pub.edb = 3,080 kb

there are also some 300 Mb log files in imcdata/log

re: the service packs
i downloaded sep4 for exchange -> there's about 14 files!!
do i need to stop all sevices and run each exe in sequence?

It means the mtadata file (don't move it). Its the right problem but the wrong resolution.

Have you restarted the server from cold yet? It could be a hardware issue rather than an OS prob.

If that fails get hold of Norton Utilities and have it check the disk. Also, while doing all of this, pray that you have a good back up...

ok, thanks
:)

backup?

:p
(just kidding)
