Hi all,

I am new to domino system and using domino ver 5.0.4. I find that in the mail.box (mail queue) there is a lot of mail (sending to my domain) which do not have any valid domino user account, so this incoming mail will either bounce back or become dead mail if the sender address is spoofed.

My question is: Is this the default receiving behavior of domino mail system, for as far as i know, sendmail will check the existence of local user account first & if no valid local user account, it will terminate the SMTP connection, i.e. not process it any further.

Thanks for any kind of information

I would suggest you turn off the bounce, as this means you become an open relay for sending junk and viruses. Go into admin and check your message settings. You want to deny all external address sending through your server (unless this causes you problems with your remote users - in which case use the next option down to only allow certain host to send to external domains).

Thanks for your answer.

But my domino system is not an open relay, it allow only a fixed range of local private address to relay via this server.

My problem is: external guy can send email & the server will accept the mail if the mail's recipent domain is equal to may server domain , no matter whether the user part of email address is valid or not. This consumes a lot of server resource & possibly accumulate a lot of dead mails.

Thanks for any info.
