Hi Everyone,
I would like know if there is a way to force a read recipt in either outlook 2002 or exchange 2000 for specific mailbox or it has to be done system wide. We have some employees that when you send them an email and request a read recipt they click no for whatever reason so you do not know if they have read the message. i would like to turn off that feature and force a read recipt.

Thanks

Are your Outlook 2002 users using PST's by any chance? When you connect up to an Exchange 2000 and use it's mailbox stores, you don't have an option of not accepting a receipt, it's automatically generated by default.

The answer is yes to all you have asked so how do you set it up that you get the recipt message even if the recipant of the email clicks no to the recipt message.

You can only do what you want by eliminating the PST usage and instead having the users work directly from the Exchange server.

Otherwise the recipient will always have the option of not sending a receipt.

How do you eliminate the pst and work off the exchange 2000

Unfortunately, I don't have Outlook 2002, I have 2000. But basically, instead of using Personal Folders, you use Microsoft Exchange Server. I'm not sure where it's at in the 2002 menus. In 2000, it's under Tools/Services.

Can someone confirm where to make the change for Outlook 2002?

It's now in Tools/Email Accounts.

You need to define the Exchange Server account, and then change the Deliver New E-Mail to the Following Location to the Exchange Mailbox as opposed to the PST file.

PST's are bad, m'kay...

That is not quite accurate. Outlook Xp lets you choose the option to return the read receipt or not in corporate mode.

The only way you can really force it is through Policies, where you disable some features.

Now, personally, I hate requesting read-receipts, and I will always turn them off so no-one will ever get one from me as I believe it is not anyones business when I read an e-amil.

That's good to know, I wasn't aware that Outlook XP offered that. I presume it's the same for Outlook 2003?
