mail merge from Excel 2003 to Word 2003 2

Is there any way to stop Microsoft from converting my dates into US format when doing a mail merge?
In Excel they are formatted as dd/mm/yyyy but when merged to Word the date fields will only display as mm/dd/yyyy.

Any ideas?

Edit the field in your merge document to read

{MERGEFIELD FieldName \@ "dd/MM/yyyy"} or similar.

Use Alt+F9 to show/hide field codes so that you can edit them.
