Mail Enabled Public Folders

Hello,

I currently have new installation of Microsoft Exchange 2007 SP2 with no previous versions of Exchange. I am using public folders at the moment and am trying to setup a mail enabled public folder. The mail enable is setup on the folder, but whenever an email is sent to it, it hangs in the mail queue and gives the error "There is currently no route to the mailbox database".

I've searched the net for fixes for the issue, but all of the fixes are for upgrading from Exchange 2003 or running them in parallel, which we aren't. I've even tried running through the tips on the following link:


and it still isn't working. Does anyone have any idea how to get the public folder mail enable working on Exchange 2007 SP2? Thanks.

Try these steps to mail enable the public folder

1st (right click public folder and 'mailenable')
2nd (Properties on the object)
3rd (Email address SMTP 'emailaddress') uncheck "Automatically update email address
4th (Permissions Default and Anonymous (Contributor)
5th (Exchange Advanced) Customer Attributes add domain
 
There's no reason to uncheck automatically update email address unless the format of the SMTP address isn't what you want. Unchecking the box makes it difficult to add additional domain names and addresses later.

Only the first step is needed.

As for permisions, it depends on who you want to be able to send to that PF. If it's domain authenticated users, make sure 'default' has contributor or higher. If it's going to receive email from the outside, then 'anonymous' needs contributor.

And don't forget, Public Folders are considered deprecated. Microsoft has been pushing orgs to get off of PFs.

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried everything that you both suggested and still no luck. When I send an email to that public folder (mail enabled, permissions set, etc.) and check the Queue Viewer, it still displays with the error "There is currently no route to the mailbox database". However, there is also a message that appears belows that from PF1@***.com (PF1 is the name of the public folder database) and gives the error "430 4.2.0 STOREDRV; mailbox logon failure". Any ideas to why this is appearing also?

I forgot to add to my last post, is there a mailbox or user that needs to be associated to the public folder at all in exchange 2007, or is just the mail enable fine (just assign the public folder an email)?

Also, as mentioned above, we have never had any previous versions of exchange installed on our network, this is the first one. Thanks.

Hmmm... Get the properties of the mailbox databases and make sure they are pointing to the correct Public Folder store. Shouldn't be an issue, but just check.

I just double checked and the mailbox database is pointing to the correct public folder store.
