I have a client with a Magix and merlin messaging. They have DIDs and would like the unused extensions that don't have phones to forward to 2710(operator). These unused extensions don't have voice mail boxes so they just ring. They don't have phones at this time otherwise I would just program a forward button. I am coming up brain dead on this one. Any suggestion is appreciated.

I don't have very many Merlins left out there, so I seem to have to retrain myself every time I work on one. I like the system, but most of mine have been replaced with IP Offices.

If there is not a phone (or adjunct, calling group, etc) associated with a DID number, it will ring to the Operator as "DID?".

So, if you have extensions or adjuncts built that receive DID calls, you could assign authorization codes to them, and you can forward them to the Operator extension.

Once you have an Auth Code, go to a Keyset, press SPKR, and dial #80-(auth code)-#-*33-(operator's extension number)-#

And as a hint, make the auth code the same as the extension number, so it is easy to remember.

There are extensions associated with the DIDs, but no handsets. At one time there were handsets(either 4400 or MLX), but not anymore.

Put unused extension number in cover group 1 and give the operator a group cover button if it is a DLC or have group 1 cover to the QCC if it really a QCC operator.

Just a FYI, made a test call to a non-assigned DID number via a PRI: call went to Operator with cover DID?? as expected. Changed the DID invaid desination option to return a busy. Got a suprise, the call was routed to the carrier's "This is not a working number recording"?

MemphisRibs,

I covered that item awhile ago in one of my PRI threads. It should work the same way on the DMS100 also. The recording is the result of the call setup message sent by the Legend/Magix on the DCH to the 5ESS or DMS100.

That is one way to avoid junks phone calls on unused DID numbers!

if I am not mistaking you could also renumber the unused extensions to something not in the DID range and it owuld go to the operator by default. If not then you can set that to send all unassigned incoming calls to the operator, just can't remember where it is right now.

I enjoy every moment of it :)

That option is in the section for DID number programming where you set the digit feed for analogue DID service, if I remember correctly. If not check the Feature Reference guide.
