Hello All,
I'm gonna be honest, but i am new to all this. I was just transfered to a firehouse that has a Magix system and the guy who did all the work on it was just fired. I have some knowledge of it and have figured out most of what he did, but have hit a bump lately.

My higher ups want the Auto Attendant prompts changed. When I use the direct extension transfer selector code, it will only work for extensions that have that digit. I.E. Selector Code 1 is direct ext. trans. If you press 1 then 4, it transfers to ext 14. press 1 then 21 and it goes to ext 12. If i set the direct ext. trans. to selector code 2, pressing 2 then 12 goes to ext. 21.

Is there an explanation for this that i am missing, or do i just miss understand how to use the direct extension transfer? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Its been awhile, so Im not sure if these instructions will get you there.
Log in as administrator (0# / passcode), go to System Parameters (1st option), listen for Max Extension Length. Change this to 3.
ALSO, it could be that you have voicemail boxes that are 2 digits (12, 14, 21, etc.). You may have to lose those mailboxes and create mailboxes 121, 212, etc.

You may have to do both.

Good luck!

Leave your extension length alone - it was working before and it is now.

"Direct Extension Transfer" means that digit is the first digit of an extension number. So, if you have Extensions if the 10 to 19 range, or 100 to 199, set Selector Code 1 to DXT.

Same thing if you have extensions in the 20 to 29 range, or 200 to 299, set 2 to DXT.

Cover the first digit of your entire extension range by setting that selector code to DXT.

After you've done that, you can use the rest of the selector codes for "Selector Code Transfer", which is what "Direct Extension Transfer" sounds like it should be doing. Selector Code Transfer lets you set a single digit to transfer to a specific extension. Like "Press 5 for Accounting", then define the extension number that 5 transfers to.

Also, you can immediately see the value of using 3-digit extension numbers, instead of 2 digit, because every extension number will start with the same digit, freeing up the rest of the selector codes for other functions.

Thanks guys for your help. 3 digit extensions is the solution, however, before I change it over, are there any precautions i need to worry about? I.E. losing all the voice mail settings, and auto attendants. I know i am gonna have to reprogram all of the handsets that feature speed dials, but is there anything else i should know before doing it. Thanks again, this forum has been such a great help.

I would suggest using "setup space" for the default numbering format. If you don't know what "setup space" is, download the Feature Reference document from support.avaya.com, and read it. This document explains almost everything about the system. What you don't find, post questions to the forum and we will do our best to provide answers.

Also do a backup of you system programming first...the backup file with SPM and the pcmia card(in the processor). It will save you grief down the line.

Fireguy,

If your physical phones are 2 digit, you are looking at a lot more work than just changing the voicemail, as mentioned you should renumber the PBX to "Setup space", then renumber everything to 3 digit.
When you create 3 digit extensions on the voicemail, all of the 2 digit voicemial boxes will have to be recreated. Which means deleting the old 2 digit voicemail boxes and creating 3 digit mailboxes, all messages and greetings in the 2 digit voicemails will be gone.
The auto attendant, schedules, etc. will not be affected.
AND YES, Do a backup!
